Remanufactured laser toner or did you mean remanufactured laser toner cartridge?

When we say remanufactured laser toner we really mean remanufactured laser toner cartridge since the laser toner itself isn't remanufactured. Is remanufactured laser toner as good as the original OEM (original equipment manufacturer) cartridge? This is a question that is repeatedly asked and yet has no definitive answer. There are two different thoughts on this. Some feel that only an original OEM laser toner cartridge gives the best quality and reliability while others insist that remanufactured laser toner is just as good and less expensive. There are benefits to both and in the end only you can decide what's right for you once you know the facts.

What is remanufactured laser toner?

Remanufactured laser toner consists of an original empty laser toner cartridge or OEM cartridge that has been cleaned, rebuilt with remanufactured or new parts, filled with toner and then tested to meet the specifications of the OEM manufacturer or the original manufacturer.

Technically, remanufactured laser toner is suppose to meet certain industry standards but the reality is that there is a difference between remanufacturers as to which critical components of the laser toner cartridge are actually new and which are reconditioned. Is the organic photoconductive (OPC) drum within the cartridge new or remanufactured? How about the fuser unit, is that new or remanufactured? Most of the stainless steel and plastic components can be recycled almost indefinitely as well.

When deciding on remanufactured laser toner you need to ask the following questions:

  • What percentage of the component parts are new and what percentage are recycled or remanufactured?
  • Of those components recycled or remanufactured how good is the quality? Will they back up their products with a money back guarantee?
  • Critical components such as the OPC drum should either be new or rebuilt to the highest possible standards.  Avoid manufacturers that  try to cut corners.

Before you purchase ask the basic questions above.  If they can't answer your questions satisfactorily find a merchant that can. A reputable merchant will always offer you a limited guarantee or money back offer in the event you are dissatisfied or your cartridge fails to perform. Be sure to ask for it.
