Some facts about your replacement inkjet printer cartridge

Your decision on purchasing a replacement inkjet printer cartridge will be driven primarily by the make and model of printer you have. For example if you own an HP, Lexmark or IBM inkjet printer the print head will be integrated into the inkjet cartridge. That makes the inkjet cartridge more expensive than for some other makes that have the print head separate from the inkjet cartridge.  Additionally, if your cartridge happens to have the print head integrated into the cartridge then your replacement inkjet printer cartridge options are more limited simply because compatibles are much harder to manufacture. In some instances,  such as for HP inkjet cartridges, patent protections strictly forbid the manufacture of compatible cartridges.

Replacement inkjet printer cartridge options.

You essentially have four different options when finding a replacement inkjet printer cartridge:

  • Inkjet refill kit (least expensive)
  • New compatible inkjet cartridge (don't exist for HP, Lexmark and some other makes as described above)
  • Remanufactured inkjet cartridge
  • Original or OEM cartridge (most expensive)

Each of the above have advantages. For example some will claim that the best quality can only be had with an OEM (original equipment manufacturer) cartridge. Others claim that using an inkjet refill kit, if done correctly, or buying a compatible can give quality output just as good as buying an original cartridge for less cost. Ultimately only you can decide what's right for you and that might require trying the different options available to you and testing to see what works for your specific needs.

Replacement inkjet printer cartridge tips.

Always try to buy multiple cartridges at one time. It's cheaper. Some merchants sell value packs comprising of 2 or 3 black cartridges together with  two color cartridges for each of the different colors that your printer requires (if your printer uses more than one color cartridge). Your printer may only use a single color cartridge which combines the various colors together.

Look for merchants that offer free shipping. Many do.

Go with a merchant that stands behind their products. Ask if they have a guarantee or money back offer if your not happy with your inkjet cartridges. You may end up paying a little more for the extra piece of mind but it's well worth it.
